In this photo I show a Starbucks coffee cup with a large shadow looming in the background and a white glow on the cup itself. This photo for me shows how large corporations, represented by the Starbucks cup, often have dark and shadowy behaviour inside hidden behind their golden branding that has made them all their money. I was most inspired by the film fight club which includes a Starbucks coffee cup in every gram of the film and discusses themes about corporate control similar to what I wanted to express. I used a lamp and pointed it towards the cup to create the glow on the cup and the large shadow created behind it. This helped me learn more about sizing of shadows through lighting to create meaning in an image.
Theme 2) Leading lines
Leading lines photo 3- This photo shows beams of lights next to beams of shadow. The photo shows the duality of light and dark and how they closely relate and stand out because of the other the light makes the darkness pop and vice versa.
I created the effect by placing my hand over the top of a lamp shade and turning on the lamp to create light and my hand acted as the shadow. I am pleased with how it turns out because the shadow and the light contrast each other very well.
Theme 3) Window worlds
This photo shows very luscious green trees out of focus through a rainy window. The photo is about the melancholic feeling of lockdown where you can see all the nature from outside but you are trapped inside. The focus on the rain makes it feel much more melancholic as we must focus on that rather than the very vibrant green nature that is just on the other side.
Theme 4) Extreme close ups
Theme 5) Looking up
This photo shows an abandoned castle out in the country side. The photo is about the destructive nature of time, this castle was probably very prevalent in the past and was probably a big part of the area but over the years it has slowly become less and less important becoming covered and hidden by the nature that surrounds it.
